Nelson's regional museum located in the heart of Nelson features a Regional History Gallery downstairs along with temporary exhibitions upstairs. The museum's Research Facility is located in Isel Park in Stoke.

Museum

At our central city location the Lower Gallery leads visitors through an exploration of Te Tau Ihu, top of the South Island from Tasman Bay to Golden Bay. This treasure-filled exhibition focuses on the region’s facinating history and identity, offering the opportunity for hours of discovery. The upper level and gallery are used for exhibitions with local, topical, cultural or international themes. A vibrant stained-glass window featuring New Zealand’s unique creatures and plants may be admired from the top floor.

Open 10am - 5pm Weekdays, 10am - 4.30pm Weekends and Public Holidays. Closed Christmas Day and Good Friday.

Research Facility

Collections housed here include photographs, archives, art and a large general collection of objects connected with the Nelson and Tasman regions. These collections are used by local, national and international communities for research.
